The True Story of My Cat

It was a sunny day, my friends and I  were all curled up in bean bags reading silently in Mrs. Skeens class. Describing Mrs. Skeen is hard because she’s so nice and it’s hard to pick the words to describe her, But since we don’t have all day I’ll pick a little. Mrs. Skeen is a loving, awesome, passionate, and good teacher. Mrs. Skeen is the reason I am able to write this story with details and all the other bonuses a story could ever have. Mrs. Skeen teaches my favorite class, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. But alright back to the story. Mrs. Skeen clapped her hands then said, ‘’ Alright class, I have an Assignment for you. You might say, ‘’ Mrs. Skeen my parents would never let me get another pet.’’ But this is an assignment for the school and you will do this persuasive letter on getting you a pet. Understood? The class nodded their heads then started writing once the papers were passed out to them. I got my paper so I started brainstorming. I already have Jessie. (My Border Collie dog) But she seems so lonely. Even though I play with her. She needs a companion. A cat would be nice. Keep Jessie company. But what would Jessie think of a cat. The only cat Jessie’s been in contact with is Booger (My past cat). Is it a good idea? Jessie gets so excited seeing other pets that she can’t control her emotions. Oh, well. Don’t think daddy or mama will approve of getting a cat. But it’s worth a try.

I thought a little bit more then finally a light bulb appeared in my head. I grinned then started to write.

Dear Daddy,

I think a cat would make a good pet.

The cat would keep Jessie company so that Jessie won’t bark as much.

Then of course here comes your favorite part, every time a snake shows up in Jessies yard, you wouldn’t have to go out there cause the cat would take care of it, and it would  save you a lot of sleep time. We would keep the cat outside so that they don’t flare mom’s allergies and best part it would make me happy to have a pet that I can lift up and put in my lap to read to.

You have till my birthday to think about.

                                       With hugs and kisses,

                                                             Alexis.

Just as I was finishing Mrs. Skeen said, ‘’Alright class you might not be finished so please put the letter in your ketchup folder. But those who are finished please turn it into me. Come back tomorrow and I will be able to give them to you so that you can give it to  your parents.’’

The next day

We were sitting in groups reading Junibe Jones at the end of the day, when all of a sudden a paper glided down in the air and into my lap. I picked up the paper and glanced at it. It was my letter. Be right back, Addie you take my place. I said putting my bookmark in my book. Addie nodded then I hurried off to my desk. I pulled out a white folder and slipped the letter in the folder then hurried back to the small human circle. Just  as my friend Maddie finished her part, Mrs. Skeen said it was time to go.I slipped my bookmark in place again then hurried to my desk and gathered up my supplies.

20 minutes later

As the bus screeched to a stop I hopped off and met my mom at the crowded middle school. ‘’How was your day?’’ Mom asked. It was good, I responded.

A few minutes later we arrived at the house.

I smiled when I saw daddy walk out the door to meet us. I walked inside then set my backpack on the floor in the hall. I pulled out my folder and my planner. When daddy came inside I rushed up to him. First I said, How was your day? ‘’It was good.’’ He responded normally. I have something for you! I said grinning. I gave him the letter then ran into the living room and turned on Netflix. I waited a little bit, then he came in with a frown on his face. ‘’We can get you a cat but it’s not going to be any time soon’’ he said. Ok, we can get a cat for my birthday, I said Joyfully.

A couple months later,

It was the month of my birthday and I was sleeping, when all of a sudden my brother burst into the room. I closed my eyes then rolled over. ‘’Get up we need to run some errands,’’ my brother whispered out loud. Why do I have to go? I asked, glancing at the clock that sat on a table that stood by my bed. ‘’Because dad has some work to do, and Mom doesn’t want you bothering him,’’ he answered walking out of the room. I groaned then flipped the covers off of me and went into the bathroom to get ready. A few minutes later I was at the table eating oatmeal while daddy did work on the computer. Just as I was putting my bowl away my mom yelled from outside, ‘’Let’s go!!’’ I slipped on my shoes and raced out the front door. In the car I could see my brother in the front seat and my mom in the driver’s seat. We ran a few errands then we stopped in the parking lot of Pet Co. Why are we stopping here? I asked. ‘’I’m going to get a cat crate so that if someone calls that they have a cat we’ll be ready. A couple minutes past and we were waiting when mom came up with the carrier. We were back on the road but this time we stopped at the vet’s office. I asked the same question I asked at PetCo, but this time mom gave a different answer, ‘’ I want you to come in with me to get Jessie some flea-and-tick. Ok, I said putting my mask on. Instead of going to the counter to pay we went into the back and into a small room. A vet came in with a little cat wrapped in a blanket. ‘’This is Socks, he is 4 months old and he is a Siamese cat mix,’’ the vet said. ‘’ ‘’This is your new cat,’’ Mom said smiling. I gasped then hugged mom. Thank you. I said almost a million times.

And to this day Socks lives happily with Jessie. Every time I look out the window I see Socks and Jessie happily snuggling together. Now it’s one happy and complete family.

WHY IS SOCKS SO IMPORTANT TO ME?

  1. Socks is important to me because he makes me happy.
  2. I like having that little trouble maker because every time I read to him, in like 20 minutes I see him sleeping, and it’s so cute!
  3. I like picking the rascal up and walking him everywhere, holding him like a baby.
  4. It seems that me and Socks have a special bond because when I feed him, he moews, so everytime I say something he meows, and it’s like I’m able to talk to him.

WHY DID I GET A PET CAT?

  1. I’ve always wanted a small pet that I could actually pick up and put in my lap to read to.
  2. I like seeing my pets happy, but every time I’d look out the window I would see my dog look so lonely.  Ever since Booger my past cat died Jessie got so lonely. I didn’t like seeing Jessie sad so I figured a new companion would be good for Jessie.
  3. Like I said in number 2. I hate seeing pets so sad. And I hated seeing that every time we’d go to a shelter I see so many pets without homes. Adopting pets make me happy to think that now they have a home, a place where they belong.
