Chapter Two

When I had finally drawn up the physical and mental power to awake, it felt as if the weight of the world had been dropped onto my shoulders. I felt dazed. I felt- alone. Wondering where in the world I was, I sat up. The pain in my stomach had gone away, but my loneliness had not. Maybe- maybe I would just give up. I was- indeed- in the middle of nowhere. With no one, and no help. It was no use, right? I could never get home. There was just no way. No. I was not going to be a coward. I would survive, just to spite my mom. I can do things by myself, without a mother hovering over me. I would NOT give in.

I sat up, with confidence pumping through my veins. I tied my red hoodie to my head, then scanned my surroundings. I saw a village about a mile away. I started to walk towards it but then paused. In the desert, there are many mirages. I was overheated and dehydrated. This could be a total waste of time. But, being my impulsive self, I shook off logical thoughts and ran towards the village. As I got closer I realized that it WAS a mirage, but by that point, it was too late. My impetuous self was drained of energy, for real.
