The Vaca

Chapter One: The Beginning

It all started on Sunday. My owner P.J had just gotten back from church. He closed the back door, plopped himself on the pinkish colored couch, and turned on the TV with a weird looking rectangular, dusty, black TV remote . On TV there was a commercial about cat food. I sure liked the commercial so I jumped to the couch and sat in P.J’s lap.
‘’Hey Black Panther whatcha doing here? I thought you were going to hang out with those dogs, Max and Mike.’’

First of all I said I’m a cat not a Panther, so don’t call me Black Panther, and also those dogs,Max and Mike are only interested in digging their disgusting bones. I need to keep myself clean. But all P.J heard was a hiss and a purr.
‘’ That’s ok he said you can sit with me,’’ P.J said.
On the TV now, there was a show about sharks. I heard they’re fish. I wanted to catch them but when I saw their teeth I decided not to. Then from the basement I heard a loud Clang! I looked up at P.J, but he didn’t seem to notice, so I decided to investigate.

Chapter Two: Success For The Dogs
I sped down the stairs and into the basement. Then I heard the Clang again. And you wouldn’t believe what I saw. It was the dogs! Max and Mike. What are you doing here? I asked them.
‘’Duuude you haven’t heard? There’s now a pet portal to go into a different place!’’ barked Max.
You can go, but I’m not getting into that mess, I purred.
‘’Oh please you’re the smartest pet in the whole neighborhood.’’
Well you can try to bribe me but still you won’t be able to. I started to leave, then I heard footsteps. Uh-Oh, it’s my owner, he’ll freak out if he knows you’re in my house without permission, quick, hide! I said hissing at the dogs and pushing them into big boxes.
‘’ Black Panther whatcha doin’ down here? It’s really misty.’’ P.J said all noisy like.
I purred and pretended to leave. When P.J was all the way up the stairs I sprinted back to the dogs, and pawed at the box flaps until they opened.
‘’ Thanks, and I think Mike has bribery that might work on you’’ Max said grinning.
I rolled my eyes. Then Mike started talking.
“I heard there’s a lot of fish there, plus you need a break from that old German Shepherd. He’s always, like go get that, don’t do that, go here, go there. I know, ‘cause he does it to us too.’’
Max nodded in agreement. Well you bribed me and well I’m tired of cat food so I guess.
‘’YESS!!!!’’ Max and Mike howled together.
Be quiet, P.J Might come down here.
I said annoyedly The dogs stopped and grinned their adult-dog grin.

Chapter Three: Getting Prepared

Ok, I said you go first, Max.
‘’Wait’’ Mike started ‘’ It says here in the Woof Woof Book to..’’
Wait, you know how to read? I asked
‘’Yep lessons taught by a great cat.’’ Mike said, lying his paws behind his head.
Mike, I started, you realize I taught you how to read right? And also the only reason I asked you, if you could read was because I don’t think you were even paying attention to what I was teaching.
‘’How do you think I learned to read if I was-’’ Started Mike. ‘’Mike can you just read the Woof Woof Book please.?. Interrupted Max. ‘’Oh yeah’’ continued Mike’’ As I was saying..’’
Me and Max rolled our eyes.
‘’It says here in the woof woof book we must hold paws to go through the portal.’’ Continued Mike.
Um I started there’s no way I’m holding my paws with your dirty dirt paws.
‘’No worries’’ Max and Mike said,as they started to clean their paws in the bucket of water P.J had left out.
Then they pranced towards a rusty old metal shelf that lay in a corner with booger green wallpaper peeling off. Max looked at the rusty old metal shelf, then settled on a clean banana yellow towel. Mike quickly grabbed the banana yellow towel and the two Golden Retriever dogs started to wipe their all eight paws then pranced back to me.
‘’Better Now?’’ asked the dogs.
Better. I said feeling relieved that I didn’t need to hold paws with dirty paws. Mike started to recite the poem’’ Portal, Portal,
Take us somewhere,
We two dogs and a cat,
Take us somewhere on the map!
When we jump into the portal,
It will be a blurry, So take us where it flurries!

Chapter Four: On the Not-so-Good Vaca.
Wait! I started to say, but it was too late. There’s no fish where it snows.
‘’ Oops,’’ said Mike ‘’ I was supposed to say this.

Portal, Portal ,
Take us somewhere ,
We two dogs and a cat,
Take us somewhere on the map!
Fish swim in the ocean water,
So take us somewhere, where it’s hotter!

There was a POOF! Fish! Fish! I exclaimed with happiness. I started to run, then I noticed the water and shrieked Water! Water! Run for your life!!!
‘’ May,.. Started Mike.
Stop the story. Ok thanks. Just so you know my real name’s May, but I’m pretty sure P.J doesn’t know that. Ok back to the story.

‘’May, the only way you’ll catch fish is if- Mike paused, turned around and started to run.
Max and I did too. Pet pound people, run for your life, really!!!! I screeched and hissed
‘’ What are pet pound people doing on the beach?’’ Max asked confused like.
Do you think I would know? I asked sarcastically. We ran and ran. Then when I ran out of breath I stopped for some air and so did Mike and Max. Then I started running again but it was too late. I had a blackout.

Chapter Five: Something Surprising.

My eyes flickered on and off just like the lights when the power’s about to go out. Then finally I woke up. I looked around and saw that Max and Mike were with me too, but they were still asleep, at least I think. I looked around some more and saw thin silver aluminum bars all around me. ‘’Where are we?’’ Max asked suddenly. ‘’ It says here beware of- eeeh!. My neck hurts. You read it Max. Ouch,’’ complained Mike. ‘’ Uh-ok. It says Beware of Pet Pound people they will- Ouch!! My neck hurts too!! You read it, May!’’ Howled Max.
Uh. I feel weird reading a dog- I started.
‘’Just read it! And uh- how come your neck isn’t hurting? Max and Mike moaned together.
I don’t know but I’ll pick off where you left, Max k? Max nodded. They will shoot sleeping darts at dogs that come near and will sprinkle magic catnip on cats too. H-mm. No wonder my neck doesn’t hurt.
‘’A-hh’’ said a voice from a corner. ‘’I see you have woken up. H-mm. Then from another corner an old German Shepherd appeared. His eyes lit up. ‘’May!’’
Scout! Why did you come here?, I asked.
‘’To help.’’ Scout answered.
Then all of a sudden there was a BOOOM!!!!! I was still at the Pet pound place but the Woof Woof Book wasn’t there. And without the Woof Woof Book we wouldn’t be able to get back.

Chapter Six: Some Good Info

‘’How are we supposed to get back now?’’ Mike asked. ‘’That’s what I’m trying to figure out, Mike. Can’t you see?’’ Max said frustrated. ‘’No I can’t see, not without the-’’ Mike started. Shhhhh. I hissed at them and I heard something. Listen I told them. In the distance we could hear the Pet Pound men talking.
‘’We must not let the rascals know about Ingrid. She has the potions to bring those rascals home and we need those animals for work,’’ said one man, then the other man started to talk,’’Hector, your mind is the size of a pea dude. Those rascals over there,’’ said the man pointing to us. ‘’Can’t even understand what we’re saying. So if you want to become a good pound dude you better let your pea sized brain grow.’’
Can’t understand our language! I hissed angrily.
‘’It’s the opposite, we can understand their language but they can’t understand ours, barked Max angrily.
I know right! Then I stopped to notice that Mike was staring at a beautiful white curly haired poodle. Um Mike I started. It’s very rude to stare.
‘’Huh-uh um Chick-fil-a rules!” screeched Mike. ‘’Do you even know what we’re talking about?’’ asked Max. ‘’Yeah, you’re talking about that gorgeous beautiful looking poodle.” Mike said looking into the poodle’s eyes. ‘’ NNOO!!!!!!’’ Max and I shrieked together.

Chapter Seven: Purr-fecto

‘’We’re talking about breaking out of here and finding Ingrid.’’ Yelled Max. ‘’Two questions. Who’s Ingrid? And what about-’’ Mike started squinting at the white poodles collar.’’Lilly.’’ Finished Mike.
Ingrid is a-uh-something. I think an old woman. I said.
‘’Oh and also I thought you hated crushes, but you like her-er Lilly.’’ Said Max. ‘’I do hate crushes, it’s just that Lilly’s kinda cool.’’ Mike lied.
You said girl dogs can’t be cool. I said glaring at Mike. ‘’Oh-ok maybe I kinda like Lilly.’’ Admitted Mike. ‘’Ok I’m glad you admitted that you like Lilly but we have to break out of here.’’ Said Max. ‘’ You are..? Asked Mike. ‘’Of course not. I just want to get back to see Oliver, and dig my bones ok? Asked Max.
Oh by the way Oliver is a squeaky toy that Max got. Ok back to the story.
We need to make a plan. Oh Come on. We don’t have anything to make a plan. ‘’Or do we.’’ Smiled Mike. You have something? I asked. ‘’Nope, I just asked for effect. ‘’I have a plan’’ grinned Max. A real one? I asked.
Max Nodded and told us his plan. Purr-fecto. I said cracking my paws.

Chapter Eight: The Plan

Wait! I said. Where’d you get the ketchup? Max shrugged then pulled out a bottle of ketchup from nowhere. ‘’I was hoping to get some hot dogs, If that answers your question.’’
Ok ready? I asked the dogs.
‘’Ready’’ They responded. Max started squirting ketchup all over his body. ‘’I’m putting on lotion.’’ said Max sarcastically. I rolled my eyes then looked over at Mike, he was doing his part. So I started to do my part. Mike started to show his fangs. And I whipped out my claws. Then Max started to howl. ‘’Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof!!!! The plan started out great.
‘’Oh-my. Hector look. One of these rascals hurt that dog.’’ Yelled one man. ‘’What the.’’ Said Hector, opening the small, thin and silver aluminum door. Max pounced up and we ran out of the cage. Then Mike jumped up, grabbed the keys (to the door our cage is in) with his mouth and threw it to me.
I caught in the air with my paws,
I know, impressive.
The dogs stood on each other and pushed me to the top of a wooden door with a small, but big enough for me to slip through, open window. I unlocked the wooden door, got out of the room, and locked the Pet pound men inside the room we just escaped through like 3 seconds ago.
‘’Yes!!’’ Max howled and barked.
I started cheering but then I noticed that Mike looked worried. I looked at him and said, You still worried about Lilly?
‘’She’s not in her cage,’’ said Mike worriedly.
I peered into the square hole I slipped through and it turns out Mike was right. I was shocked because Mike never got anything right. I put my paw on his shoulder and said, Don’t worry we’ll find her.
‘’I hope’’ Mike responded pitifully.
I glanced over my shoulder and saw that Max was missing. Where’s Max? I asked Mike. Mike shrugged an I-don’t-know shrug and then looked back into the room we escaped from.
‘’Over here guys.’’ I heard Max say. ‘’There’s Lilly’’ said Max. Mike gasped then started to run. ‘’OMG, You’re right.’’Mike said, his eyes so big like he had just seen a ghost. ‘’ She’s so pretty.’’ Mike said like he was hypnotised. ‘’I know where Ingrid lives.’’ Lilly said grinning.

Chapter Nine: Ingrid’s Scroll

‘’You do, where does she live? Asked Max eagerly. ‘’ I’ll show you. Follow me.’’ She said, sashaying away.
I guess we’d better follow her, I said.
‘’How far is this trip anyways?’’ Asked Mike, hoping it would be far. ‘’Oh not too far.’’ Replied Lilly. ‘’And for your information, Ingrid is my friend.’’ Informed Lilly.
I whispered, what a diva to Max, but as soon as Lilly said that she was friends with Ingrid we all stood there in shock. Silence filled the air.
Then finally Max spoke up,’’ If your friend’s Ingrid, then why were you at the pound? Asked Max. ‘’Ingrid told me that you would get caught, so she sent me to sorta get caught but mostly to show you where she lives. The thing is that you don’t know that I have powers. I can shape shift.’’ Lilly informed us. ‘’S-s-so you’re not a dog after all. Your just Ingrid’s shapeshifting friend?’’ Mike asked sadly. ‘’I wouldn’t say it that way. I like being a dog, alot but every once in a while I turn into different animals.’’ Started Lilly.’’ Oh by the way Ingrid lives in that little canopy.’’ Lilly said, pointing her paw at the wide thick green leaves surrounding a humounges hollow spot.
Outside the small hideout were a bunch of wood bowls filled with water. And A bunch of jars filled with I swear millions of fireflies. We pushed through the big thick green leaves that led into the small house. Inside I looked around and saw brown dirt walls, Tree stumps that held green, purple and more colored potions, A humongous tree stump with small leaves as table cloth, and on the leaf table cloth I saw medium sized leafs that were shaped into bowls, in a few bowls were water and in another few were dead bugs, Yuck I said in my head, I looked around some more and saw huge leaves folded into big squares for seats all around the humongous stumped table, I saw More jars with fireflies, ya know to light the up the humongous little hideout, then last and most important, there was Ingrid, her hair was curly and gray, she held a long thick branch for a cane, she was wearing an old ragged leafed dress.
Then she said,’’ I see you have entered the forest in Hawaii. And Lilly I see you have brought some friends.’’ Ingrid pointed at me, Max, and Mike. Then said,’’ You are May, you must be Max, and of course there’s Mike. I see that you would like to go home. Is that true Lilly?’’ asked Ingrid. Lilly nodded and Ingrid carried on, ‘’Before I send you home you must do a deed. You must collect the ingredients for you to go home.’’ Informed Ingrid. Ingrid gave us a scroll and told Lilly to help. Max unrolled the scroll and looked at the scroll. ‘’O-boy.’’ Max sighed, rolled up the scroll, he gave me a this-is-going-to-be-hard look and tossed the scroll to me.
By the look of Max’s face I knew this wouldn’t be easy.

Chapter Ten: The Potion

I tossed the scroll to Mike and Mike opened it up. ‘’Whoa, that’s a lot of ingredients. We don’t even know where they are.’’ Mike said, staring at the list. ‘’That’s why I’m here to help you.’’ Added Lilly. ‘’But I must warn you, for every task there is there’s going to be a hard part.’’ Warned Lilly. ‘’We’re fine.’’ We busted out of the pound what else could be harder?’’ Mike said, trying to impress Lilly. Lilly rolled her eyes then started to walk.
A few minutes Later, ‘’Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! You didn’t tell us there would be a scary flying pig that guards the limon-lime juice!’’Mike said mainiactly ‘’I said there would be hard parts. But no you didn’t listen Mike!’’ Yelled Lilly. ‘’Ok fine I deserved that.’’ Admitted Mike just catching his breath.
Hours had passed and we had finally got all the ingredients. It was hard since we were chased by a unicat, a batdog, a fishy dude, and many more I don’t want to tell. ‘’Ok let’s get this back to Ingrid, I wanna go home.’’ Informed Max. We pushed through the thick green leaves and on the leafy horizon we could see Ingrid’s canopy. Ingrid’s canopy was lit up with a million little fireflies in jars. As we pushed through the entryway we could see Ingrid with a cauldron that came out of nowhere, ready with dirty water. ‘’Please put the parts into the cauldron.’’ said Ingrid. At last the parts were put in and Ingrid was stirring the potion. ‘’Tis it is ready,’’ she said. We lined up and Ingrid poured the potion over us.
So much for staying dry. I whispered out loud so that everyone could hear me. Ingrid rolled her eyes then poured the potion over us.There was a poof and I had a black out. I know, like I had a black out, AGAIN.

Chapter Eleven: At Home

Home, At last!! I said Yelling up to the sky.
‘’Oliver! I heard Max shout through the fence.
I went inside and I saw Scout, the German Shepherd holding a thick Branch cane. He looked at me and grinned, ‘’Did you have a good adventure? He asked. ‘’Cause I did.’’ I stood there in shock while Scout told me Lilly was his sister and how he could shape shift and that he was Ingrid and just all of that surprised me. I hurried out the door to tell the dogs all about it. And when I did Mike fainted, and Max just stood there without blinking. Then finally he said, ‘’ I guess we were judging a book by it’s cover.’’ Max admitted. ‘’ Yeah Scout actually helped us get home. That’s what I least thought Scout would do.’’ Mike said, staring at the ground.
Me, Max, and Mike had learned a lesson that I would never forget, Never Judge A Book By It’s Cover. And things had turned out great, P.J started to call me by my real name, Max just had to give Oliver the squeaky toy a birthday, and Mike got to ask Lilly out on a date, of course she said yes. And we happily lived like hakuna matata.

The End!!!
